Starting from Wednesday, China Southern Airlines, the country's biggest carrier by fleet size, will raise fuel surcharges on domestic airfreight flights by 50 percent, from the current 0.2 yuan per kilogram to 0.3 yuan per kilogram, media learned from the airline's Hubei branch.</p]
Air China and China Eastern Airlines have joined China Southern in making the same move, and it's expected other airlines will follow suit.</p]
Currently, China has no specific policy for airfreight flight fuel surcharges, and airlines usually adjust the charges accordingly after fuel surcharges on passenger flights have been determined. Since 2004, fuel surcharges on domestic airfreight flights remained relatively stable.</p]
The consecutive rise of world oil prices in recent days is the main cause of this round of surcharge increases, an analyst said.
